Kayla Green—Hey everyone! It has been an awesome and busy month since I last wrote. I just got back into the swing of things after mid semester break and now we just have the home stretch until the end of the semester! Here’s some updates about what I’ve been up to here at Brockport.
I have gotten really familiar with everything at the radio station and I am really enjoying my time there! I write album reviews for the website and got one of them published in the newspaper recently, which was awesome! I go in and work there 2 hours per week for office hours, which basically consists of searching facts about artists or typing up song charts. Nothing too exciting. I have also created my first promo with the production department, which was really cool. I haven’t heard it aired on the radio yet, but I know it’s out there for people to hear, which is pretty cool!
Homework honestly takes up most of my time, but surprisingly I’m okay with that! It actually feels pretty good when I knock out a ton of work, it makes me feel productive. I usually do homework in my room, it’s easiest for me to focus in there, but lately I have been going to Jitterbugs a few times a week with a friend and I get a lot done there too. Plus I get to enjoy a nice coffee or dessert while I work. 🙂 All this hard work really did pay off when I saw my midterm grades, mostly A’s and one B! I was pretty happy about that to say the least.
I have begun drafting my schedule for next semester, which has proved to be stressful but also exciting. I am looking to take 2 classes in my major, 2 more gen eds, and 2 classes in areas I am considering for my minors. I am between Film Studies and Graphic Design, but if I like both I think I will just minor in both. All of this is consideration, that puts me at 18 credits next semester which will be a lot of work but I am willing to take it on because I am really excited to start getting deeper into my major and minor studies and get gen eds out of the way. I also have a possible internship opportunity at the Marketing Department for the college which I still have to apply for, but if all goes well I will be working on that next semester as well! It’s going to be really busy but I am looking forward to all the new knowledge that lies ahead.
When I do have free time, I’ve been hanging out with friends and watching movies or just talking in our rooms. Very many movie nights have taken place in my room, which I love! I am so lucky that I have formed close bonds with such great people already; I couldn’t ask for more at this point. It’s only been 2 months but I can already see that these friends will be friends for life, which is so cool to see. College has really made me so much more outgoing with people in general.
As Halloween is approaching, so many people are planning to go out. Well…I went out for the first time last weekend and it honestly wasn’t for me. I didn’t really feel like it was my scene, so some friends and I who aren’t going out are planning to see a movie and dress up as characters from Grey’s Anatomy! I am glad that I was able to experience a party just to see what it was about before I judged it, but now I know that there are places that I fit in so much more. You don’t have to go out on weekends to have fun here, there are so many other things you can be doing if partying isn’t your thing.
Well, this pretty much sums up my life in the past month! I am thoroughly enjoying myself here; I feel so at home and I feel so blessed. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the semester.
Until next time,
P.S. I attached a photo of two friends and I before we ushered at a play on campus 🙂
