Lynn Carson—Hey, hey, hey. The new semester is well underway here at Brockport (we’re already going into week six, weeeeeird), and with this new semester, there’s been a lot of changes around campus. As they have every year since I got here, students returned to some inconvenient new construction! Currently, both Lathrop Hall, the future home of our nursing program, and the area in front of the Brown Building are being renovated. The latter is really annoying, but I’m also excited about it for two reasons:
It’s going to make the library way more accessible! Also, there’s going to be green space, which honestly will probably be crispy brown space then crunchy white space more often than green space, but I do love environmentalism.
On the flip side, they actually finished a construction project over the summer! Yay. The Liberal Arts Building, which they started building just after my orientation in 2012, started housing classes this year. There are some sick photos of the outside in the Week in Photos album on the Brockport facebook page from a few weeks ago.
It’s a very nice building with lots of cool new technology. It’s also LEED-certified, which is also really cool. You can check out our LEED scorecard for all the certified buildings on campus at the link. Also, although it isn’t on that page, I’m pretty sure Lathrop is aiming for certification as well. Who doesn’t love energy efficiency???
There’s some cool new art happening on the tunnel to the other side of campus as well, which I’m really into.
It isn’t done yet, but I’ll probably be posting more photos to my twitter or instagram if you’re interested in the progress.
Finally, the dorm where I live, Mortimer, underwent some changes over the summer as well.
Here’s our swanky new movie theater. Honestly, I’m a little worried about it because that door you see to the left is my room, and I’m picturing the Dark Knight on full blast at midnight. Plus, they always seemed to be working on it when I wanted to be taking a nap. On the other hand, it’s really cool in there, and I’m sure a lot of people are going to really enjoy it.
And here’s one of the swanky new study rooms. There isn’t one on my floor, as there is a movie theater, but they seem to be on every other floor. I counted and there are TEN outlets in this little four person room. What luxury. On the outside, there’s another board and table, as well as another television and some plushier chairs. It’s a huuuge step forward from last year’s lounges, let me tell you. Overall, the changes around campus have been really positive this year, and I’m excited to see how Brockport continues to move forward.
