Hi everyone, my name is Abby and I am a junior here at Brockport. I came to Brockport not sure what I wanted to do with the rest of my life and through my years here I have started to finally figure it out. It was very nerve racking coming here as a freshman not knowing what I wanted to do, returning as a sophomore still unsure of what I wanted to do, and now as a junior finally starting to figure it out.
Don’t panic if you find yourself in the same boat. The best thing I did was to get involved. Currently I am a business administration major with a concentration in marketing. My first year here at Brockport I felt lost, I didn’t know what I wanted to do and I wasn’t involved in anything, so the first thing I decided I was going to do was to get a job. I started off working as an office assistant at 89.1 the point( the on campus radio station) my freshman year and my sophomore year I got a job as an office assistant in Undergraduate Admissions and I still work there today. This was the best thing I could have done. Since I have worked here I have became more involved and have met some great people and have really started to prepare myself for life after college. While working in admissions, I heard about becoming a Student Ambassador which sounded pretty cool so I decided to pursue it.This is my second semester as an ambassador and I love it. It has really opened my eyes to future career paths, and I am now considering pursuing higher education!
So to sum up my little rant.. don’t stress about being undecided you have plenty of time to figure it out and Brokport has a lot of opportunities to help you along the way. On a serious note, getting involved is addicting and after you join one thing you will want to join a million but that is a good thing!!
